A message from the Chair and CEO of Streetohome Foundation
Since its inception in 2008, Streetohome has brought together new funding, ideas and opportunities for collaboration – all focused on solving homelessness in Vancouver. Each year we have built on the successes of previous years. We continue to help people who are homeless or at risk in Vancouver through the development of new supportive housing strategies and homeless prevention efforts.
By funding housing with support services, we are making great progress in keeping people safely and securely housed. A 2013 evaluation of Streetohome-funded Sanford Apartments found that 89% of the tenants remained stably housed in the building after one year. Some tenants moved to other appropriate housing, and of the 62 people who moved into the building initially, only one returned to homelessness. Our donors and partners are delighted with these positive outcomes.
This past year was also one of strategic planning. Our capital campaign finished in 2012, giving us an opportunity to look at our outcomes data and fine tune our 10-Year Plan. Since 2008, Streetohome, in partnership with the City of Vancouver and Province of BC, has provided supportive housing for 761 people and prevented an additional 303 people from becoming homeless. In 2013, the Streetohome Board decided to fundraise on a project-by-project basis. We have already approved three new supportive housing developments for which we are currently fundraising.
Streetohome continues to make great strides towards solving homelessness in our city. The lives of vulnerable citizens are being transformed through a combination of philanthropic generosity, innovation and collaboration. It is particularly encouraging to see BC Housing, the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Coastal Health all working together to solve homelessness. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the work being done in this community.

Streetohome would like to thank our funders – BC Housing, the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Foundation. Their operating grants allow our organization to ensure that 100% of donations made to Streetohome go directly to helping people on the street, in shelters or at risk for homelessness in Vancouver.
